OpenAir Atlantic operates on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq people — Epekwitk (Prince Edward Island), Siknikt, Eskikewa'kik, and the broader Mi'kma'ki homeland. We acknowledge the Mi'kmaq as the original stewards of this land and water, and we are grateful to share it.

Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 10, 2026

OpenAir Atlantic is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA).

What we collect

OpenAir Atlantic does not require you to create an account. You can use the app entirely without providing any personal information.

If you grant location permission in your browser, we use your approximate location to show you the nearest PEI locations. This data is processed locally in your browser and is not transmitted to our servers.

If you accept optional tracking, we may collect usage analytics such as page views, referrers, and feature interactions to understand how people use the app and measure marketing performance.

If you submit a community conditions report (when that feature is available), we collect the information you voluntarily provide in the form.

Cookies and local storage

We use browser local storage to remember your preferences (e.g. cookie consent, last-viewed location). This data stays on your device.

We use optional analytics and marketing cookies, including Google Analytics and Meta Pixel, to measure traffic and ad campaign performance. These scripts load only if you accept them through our cookie consent banner.

We do not sell your personal information to advertisers.

Environmental data

Current weather observations, radar, air quality, alerts, and tide data shown in the app mainly come from Canadian government open-data APIs (Environment Canada and Fisheries & Oceans Canada). We also use Open-Meteo's open forecast API for the short-range rain-window timing shown in the app.

Some private dashboards may also use owner-authorized first-party sensor integrations, such as a Tempest weather station, to provide hyperlocal neighbourhood readings.

AI-generated condition summaries are processed via the Anthropic Claude API. Queries to this API contain only environmental data — never personal information about you.

Third parties

Map tiles are served by OpenStreetMap. See openstreetmap.org/privacy for their policy.

AI summaries are generated via the Anthropic API. See anthropic.com/privacy for their policy.

If you accept optional tracking, website analytics and ad measurement may be provided by Google and Meta. See policies.google.com/privacy and privacycenter.instagram.com/policy for their policies.

Data retention

We do not store personal data on our servers. Any preferences stored in your browser remain there until you clear them.

Optional analytics and marketing measurement data may be retained for up to 12 months to identify usage trends and campaign performance.

Your rights (PIPEDA)

Under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of any personal information we hold about you.

To exercise these rights or ask questions about this policy, contact us at privacy@openairatlantica.ca.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app grows. We will update the 'Last updated' date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
